Meet Haley Reese, June Educator of the Month

06.01.2019

Haley Reese is a GOLD.KEY COLOR.ME educator with KEVIN.MURPHY. Her passion for the brand and focus on a quality client experience is why we’ve selected her as Premier Beauty’s June Educator of the Month!

How’d you get your start in education?

When our salon took on the KEVIN.MURPHY brand, I instantly fell in love with their color products. I was so excited, and I just wanted to share my experience and educate others on the brand.

What’s your favorite product from KEVIN.MURPHY?

I absolutely love the new SESSION.SPRAY.FLEX hairspray. It’s a universal product that works with any hair type. Plus, it smells great and comes in a beautiful bottle—what more could you want!

What's the newest, freshest approach you're bringing to education?

Owning a salon and trying various things, I bring a lot of experience to the classroom. Because of this, I can relate with the students on a lot of different levels, which is helpful for everyone.

What are the common problems faced by stylists today?

I think there is a gap in the way different generations of stylists approach clients.

Years ago, stylists learned to focus on salon volume—getting people in and out of their chair as quickly as possible to maximize the number of clients they see in a day. This has since evolved into a more client-focused approach that emphasizes spending time with the client and focusing on the quality of their experience.

While this gap can be challenging to bridge at times, teaching stylists to truly value their worth helps them to realize that they don’t have to run themselves ragged trying to keep their chair turning; it’s quality that’s important.

What do you want stylists to know about education?

Education is critical for every stylist. It’s a great tool to keep yourself up to date on trends and best practices and to continue to advance your skills. I wouldn’t be where I am today or have the skills I do without education.

Any advice for educators?

You can’t make everyone happy. Know that you are doing a great job and be confident in yourself. There will always be someone that doesn’t agree with you; you have to push through it and not take it personally.

What are your educator goals?

I am thrilled where I’m at, but of course, I would love to continue advancing as an educator with KEVIN.MURPHY, and at least once in my life, I want to work with Kate Reid.

What new skill would you like to learn?

I want to learn more cutting techniques; you can never have enough! Outside of the beauty industry, I would like to learn how to sew.
