Meet Holly Novacich, May Educator of the Month

05.01.2019

With nearly four decades of experience, Holly Novacich, Aloxxi Creative Advisor, has a passion for inspiring others through education, and that’s why we’ve selected her as Premier Beauty’s May Educator of the Month!

How’d you get your start in education?

I knew when I got out of beauty school that I needed to continue learning. While everyone else was focused on getting on stage, I was doing everything I could to get backstage. I would go to hair shows and let them use me as a cut and color model; I just wanted to be backstage learning.

What’s your favorite product from Aloxxi?

For a long time, my favorite was Split Ends Mend, but my latest favorite is the new Bombshell Volumizing Grip Styler. It’s a great starter for clients that shy away from products, because it doesn’t feel like there’s a product in their hair, but it gives them gorgeous volume and body.

What's the newest, freshest approach you're bringing to education?

I’ve always felt that stylists need to understand that everyone makes mistakes while they’re learning; no one starts out able to do everything perfectly. The constructive criticism stylists get in a classroom is only because the educator wants them to succeed. We all have faults; no one is perfect. Education helps us correct those faults, while practice perfects them into new strengths.

What do you want stylists to know about education?

Education sometimes has a negative connotation for stylists, because it takes time and money, and it can be intimidating. It also requires a humbleness to admit that we don’t know everything. But stylists need to recognize that education is not here to intimidate you or restrict the way that you do things; it’s meant to inspire you and help you grow as a stylist.

Any advice for educators?

We’re all doing this for the same reason. We need to be open-minded and remember that we should be learning from each other—not competing.

What are your educator goals?

My number one goal as an educator is to share my passion for hair and to inspire others. I really want to connect with people in a meaningful way that helps them grow and be more successful.

Long term, I would also love to train and mentor other educators.
